The Menagerie
Committee Description
A menagerie is defined as a type of zoological garden, but here, it is a collection of mythical creatures hidden away from the outside world. Griffins and dragons are not fantasy but rather mischievous members of this reserve who refuse to be bathed and enjoy chocolate chips. Employees of the menagerie have dedicated their lives to the care and protection of these animals, partnering with a specialized government agency to ensure that these species survive and remain undiscovered. However, recently there was a tragic disappearance of one of the most precious creatures, the elusive Kui (夔) of Chinese mythology. Now, potential spies and dangers threaten the balance of the Menagerie and all it stands for. Delegates will pose as Menagerie employees, managers, and government officials to solve the problems that have arisen to prevent mysterious forces rejoining us from the shadows.
Topic A – Locating the Missing Kui
The Kui has now been missing for two weeks, so delegates must quickly locate and capture it. If the Kui is discovered by the public, it could destroy the lives of the creatures and humans involved. The existence of mythological creatures would no longer be a secret, potentially causing international uproar demanding an explanation from authorities. Those with ill intentions could try using creatures for their own pursuits, as the powers they hold are abnormal. Furthermore, while the Menagerie has been able to contain its chaotic weather control, having it out in the world allows the Kui’s powers to run rampant. The aforementioned Kui has been hidden from the world for millennia, even vanishing from ancient texts after the brutal capture of its siblings. The mystery surrounding this creature has given rise to some strange company, making the Kui’s public existence remarkably dangerous.
Topic B – Future Prevention Measures
From the very establishment of the Menagerie and MAPA, the escape of any creatures was considered impossible. The Kui’s disappearance means there is a way to get in and out of the Menagerie. To prevent the recurrence of any similar events, delegates must develop more sophisticated defence measures for these beasts. After this incident, it is likely that there are outsiders who could be aware of the Menagerie’s operation. With the emergence of such groups, delegates from the menagerie need to find a way for them to be dealt with. Assistance from these groups can help delegates form information blocks, extra barriers, and improve the quality of the technology used in the Menagerie. However, delegates should keep in mind that the secrecy and balance of the Menagerie is delicate and should be dealt with as such.
