Time Travel & Temporal Affairs Commission (TTAC)
Committee Description
In 2055, scientists discovered how to travel through time. While this breakthrough was incredible, it soon became clear that even small changes to the past could have huge consequences as well, many ethical concerns have arisen going hand and hand with the many political arguments among countries. The United Nations created the Time Travel and Temporal Affairs Commission (TTAC) to protect the timeline and interest of everyone on Earth.
The TTAC is responsible for regulating time travel and preventing dangerous paradoxes. Delegates from all over the world come together to debate how time travel should be used, ensuring it doesn’t cause harm. Their mission is to keep history safe and the future secure, guarding against any misuse of this powerful technology.
Topic A – Ethics and Prevention of Weaponization Regarding Time Travel
The theoretical possibility of time travel has sparked significant ethical concerns, particularly regarding its potential misuse for strategic or military purposes. The ability to manipulate historical events could destabilize global security, disrupt causality, and create a “time arms race” where nations or individuals compete to control the past for their benefit. Ethical dilemmas include whether altering past events can ever be justified, how to ensure fairness and equity in access to time travel technology, and who should be held accountable for unintended consequences. Drawing parallels from the regulation of nuclear weapons and artificial intelligence, the international community must act preemptively to establish robust frameworks. Under Topic I, delegates will debate the creation of international treaties prohibiting the military use of time travel, ethical guidelines to protect historical integrity, and oversight mechanisms to prevent exploitation. These measures aim to safeguard global stability and ensure responsible use of this transformative technology.
Topic B – Economic Implications of Time Travel
Subtopic 1 – Commercialization of Time Travel
The commercialization of time travel presents immense economic opportunities but also raises serious concerns about monopolistic practices and wealth inequality. Corporations with access to time travel could exploit historical resources or future knowledge, gaining disproportionate power and exacerbating socioeconomic divides. Delegates will explore policies to regulate the commercialization of time travel, including measures to prevent monopolies and ensure equitable access to its benefits.
Subtopic 2 – Market Manipulation
Time travel introduces unprecedented risks of market manipulation, such as insider trading based on future knowledge or altering economic events in the past for profit. These activities could destabilize financial markets and create long-term economic instability across timelines. Under Topic II, delegates will consider frameworks to regulate temporal markets, enforce ethical standards in time-based commerce, and mitigate risks associated with economic exploitation through time travel. The decisions made will shape the future of temporal economics and its impact on global financial systems.
