Committee Description

Topic A – The Criminalization of Prostitution

Under topic 1, delegates will examine the intricacies of prostitution, the stakeholders involved, and how to keep the most vulnerable parties involved safe and secure. According to the Nordic Approach, also known as the Swedish approach, prostitution is part of a continuum of male violence against women. This approach criminalizes sex purchases and pimping but decriminalizes prostitutes. This issue will be discussed by the delegates, and their approaches and regulations will be contrasted with those of the Nordic countries. By discussing, debating, reasoning, and collecting facts, delegates can come up with solutions to the future of prostitution law. Protecting the people who do not have the voice to express their own state is the foremost responsibility of the delegates, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations International Law and Justice Committee.

Topic B – Illicit Human Trafficking

Under topic 2, delegates of the UNILJ committee will speak on the issue of human trafficking, a heinous crime that exploits the most vulnerable and voiceless. The most common victims of this issue are children and women, deprived of a safe life and forced into labor or sexual services as a direct result of perpetrators of this crime using several coercive methods for monetary gain. Illicit Human Trafficking is an issue that connects to several other problems such as poverty, mental health issues, and the overall failure of a system that is designed to support all people, especially those who have been historically discriminatory and currently vulnerable populations such as women and children. Delegates will engage in speaking on the seriousness and current world state of this issue and be pushed to think about creating innovative solutions to assist in the eradication of trafficking. Comparing and contrasting several different plans and actions to take on this issue can help put together the most effective ways to combat it.
