War Never Changes
Committee Description
World War II (1941) convenes at one of the most consequential moments of the twentieth century. On June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany launches Operation Barbarossa, opening a front that threatens to consume Europe in total war. Delegates represent the senior political and military leadership of the Allied powers, tasked with coordinating strategy, responding to unprecedented aggression, and confronting the moral and strategic realities of a conflict defined by mass violence and terror. This committee emphasizes collective decision-making, strategic restraint, and the responsibility of leadership in a war where inaction carries catastrophic consequences.
Topic A – The War on the Front Line
The German invasion of the Soviet Union has shattered any remaining balance in Europe. Delegates must confront rapidly advancing forces, collapsing defensive lines, and a war of annihilation unfolding across the Eastern Front. Decisions surrounding troop deployment, coordination of scarce armoured and air assets, and responses to incomplete intelligence will shape the course of the war’s opening phase. The challenge is not simply to react, but to halt an enemy offensive before it becomes irreversible.
Topic B – The War on the Home Front
As military catastrophe unfolds, the pressure on civilian society intensifies. Allied governments must mobilize industry, manage shortages, control information, and preserve political legitimacy in the face of mounting casualties and fear. Delegates will explore how morale, propaganda, repression, and public trust shape the ability of states to wage total war. The endurance of the home front may ultimately determine whether the Allies can withstand and reverse the reign of terror they now confront.
